Torbay Youth Sailing Trust has the wind in its sails
EURO004 28/07/09

Torbay home improvements specialists Europlas has agreed a new sponsorship deal with Torbay Youth Sailing Trust supporting its work to give the region’s youngsters a taste for the high seas.

Part of the Royal Torbay Yacht Club, the sailing trust gives hundreds of youngsters each year an opportunity to learn everything from the basics of dinghy sailing to support the region’s next generation of sailing stars.

Having previously bought three Laser Pico training dinghies to support the trust’s RYA Onboard Scheme, which aims to give more young people access to the sport, Europlas has extended its support to include the purchase of 10 spinnakers for the RS Feva class.

Used by the trust’s junior team, the spinnakers were put through their paces in competition in the RS Feva Class Nationals held at the new Olympic sailing facility in Weymouth earlier in the Summer.

Jim Short, general manager, at Europlas said: “The trust does a great job giving children from across the area an opportunity to get out to sea, to understand how to enjoy sailing safely and to experience the freedom and excitement the sport can offer.

“We’re committed to supporting that process as part of our in the community campaign.”

Europlas, part of the Epwin Group, is one of the Torbays largest employers. The company is a leading manufacturer and installer of low maintenance, energy efficient and high security PVC-U windows, doors, conservatories, roofline products and Solar panels.

Adrian Peach, spokesperson, for Torbay Youth Sailing Trust said: “Our aim is to give young people in the Torbay area an opportunity to learn to sail.

“And Torbay is a fantastic place to do it. We have some of the best waters anywhere in the UK and a great wealth of sailing talent.

“Without the continued support we receive from companies like Europlas, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the same level of opportunity.”
